Welcome

Welcome to our virtual learning community space. This is where we will spend our time reflecting, sharing, collaborating, and being called to collective action.

Your first task will be to introduce yourself in the forum below. You will also want to create your own unique page for others in our community to visit and get to know you.

Monthly Google Earth Tutorials
We are now giving tutorials on Google Earth in Elluminate for those of you participating in one of our collaborative projects, such as The Clean Watersheds Project or A Walk on the Wild Side. Sessions take place the 4th Monday of each month at 8 pm. Session dates are also posted on the main page of the project wiki. Session recordings are under Archives on The Networked Learner wiki.

Live Earth Talk

Live Earth Talk on Wind Energy was moved to Nov. 11th at 8 pm EST because of a last minute schedule conflict. Dr. Susan Postawko from the University of Oklahoma will be giving the presentation. You can access our program in our Elluminate room. Sessions will be archived on the Live Earth Talk wiki. Chat is available , however you will need a USB headset/microphone to participate in the verbal conservation.

A Walk on the Wild Side Begins
We have a new collaborative project this year which asks teachers in the environmental and biological sciences to map ecological field experiences in Google Earth to share with others. We hope that this student-generated composite layer will help our students discover the general health of ecosystems around the globe and understand how eco-tourism affects the environment. More information on the project site.

Clean Watersheds Project
The Clean Watersheds Project for the 2009-2010 school year is ongoing. If you would like to participate, please add your school's information to the "Participating Schools" page on the project wiki. The composite layer is updated on a monthly basis as we get new information. Once you post your school's data, please remember to notify the project coordinator, Thomas Cooper - thomas.cooper@thewalkerschool.org, so I can add your layer data to the composite layer which can be found on the main page of the project wiki.
Please remember to visit the project site for updates.

AP Readers
Please remember to join the AP Readers group if you read this year in NE. The chief reader wants to use this group to keep in touch with everyone.

Field Experiences
Tammy Morgan just posted a number of photos about a recent field experience to the Arctic. Talk with Tammy about her trip and learn how you can get involved in our Field Experience Form discussion.

Thomas Cooper left a comment for J Sutton
Not sure how long it goes in the evening. I did a quick search and couldn't find a schedule, just a note about the conference on Google's site. My cell is 305-962-3686. Feel free to give me a call and we can have dinner and see the school.…

Fall Trimester

I trust you are getting psyched for the Fall. In these days of recession it is good to be in demand. I will have my hands full teaching 5 sections at JWU in the fall. These comprise 2 marine bio and 3 life science. The marine bio classes include snorkel field trips to the keys and I am adding Topical Hardwood Hammock field trip to the life science class. In the evenings I will be teaching biology II section at Nova with 2 lab sections. The latter involves an Everglades field trip.
